SUBJECT 1: Thanksgiving Holiday. The State WIC Office will be closed and there will be no WIC Help Desk coverage on Thanksgiving, November 27 and the day after, November 28, 2014.

SUBJECT 2: FFY 2014 End-of-Year Invoicing Due December 10, 2014. The deadline for submission of FFY 2014 end-of-year invoices is Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Expenses must have been incurred prior to October 1, 2014 to qualify for the FFY 2014 funding year. The grant year will close the end of December and payments beyond this date are not possible.

SUBJECT 3: Loving Support Award of Excellence Webinar. The WIC Works website has made available a webinar for local WIC agencies that explains the process for applying for the Gold, Gold Premiere and Gold Elite awards. The original USDA announcement for the “Loving Support Award of Excellence” was included in the October 7th WIC Update. SUBJECT 4: Program for Dietetic Interns - Reminder. The Program for Dietetic Interns (PDI) is now taking applications for the 2015-2016 class year. Up to four interns will be chosen from the pre-select option. This is advantageous for eligible employees of local WIC providers. The deadline for the pre-select option is Dec. 15th. There is no fee for those interns who are employed by the MDHSS WIC program or employed by a Missouri Local WIC Provider. A $5,000 fee applies to all other interns. Be sure to use the application form, which is required (see attached). The Dietetic Internship Recommendation form is also attached for your use. For more information, visit our website. SUBJECT 5: Mandatory Nutrition Update Training - Registration Open. As was stated in the November 3 WIC Update, the USDA recently conducted a Management Evaluation of Missouri WIC. The WIC State Office is holding two trainings to provide guidance on the Nutrition and Administrative findings. The Nutrition Update Trainings have now been scheduled for early in 2015 at 8 locations throughout the state. A nutritionist from each agency must attend. Other WIC local agency counseling staff is encouraged to attend. This is a one-day training scheduled from 8:30am - 3:30pm. Dates and locations for trainings are as follows:

SUBJECT 6: What’s Cooking? USDA Mixing Bowl. The Food Nutrition and Consumer Services (FNCS) is promoting the What’s Cooking? USDA Mixing Bowl this week, in time for the November and December holidays. The What’s Cooking? USDA Mixing Bowl is a collaboration between several different groups and contains thousands of recipes for both household use and food service use. Please share with your WIC participants. There are many great sounding recipes on the What’s Cooking USDA Mixing Bowl web site

SUBJECT 7: Health Insurance Marketplace - USDA Information. USDA sent the attached information about the health insurance markets. The attached has marketplace updates: materials, webinars, etc. There is quite a bit of information about Health Insurance resources which may be helpful to your WIC participants and WIC staff.
