SUBJECT 1: Shall, May, Should: When reviewing WIC policy, it is important to understand the meaning of the terms shall, may, and should.

Contact your District Technical Assistance staff if you have questions

SUBJECT 2: Mandatory Nutrition Update Training - Registration Open: As was stated in the November 3 WIC Update, the USDA recently conducted a Management Evaluation of Missouri WIC. The WIC State Office is holding two trainings to provide guidance on the Nutrition and Administrative findings. The Nutrition Update Trainings have now been scheduled for early in 2015 at 8 locations throughout the state. A nutritionist from each agency must attend. Other WIC local agency counseling staff is encouraged to attend. This is a one-day training scheduled from 8:30am - 3:30pm. Dates and locations for trainings are as follows:

You may register for the training here: http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/wictraining/NutritionProgramUpdatesTraining.php
If you have questions, contact D’Anne Ward at Danne.Ward@health.mo.gov or 573-526-0209

SUBJECT 3: Missouri WIC Pandora Campaign: The Missouri WIC Program is actively participating in the realm of Social Media. We recently ran a Pandora audio ad (attached) from
October 2-22, 2014. When the audio ad appeared on a media device the Missouri WIC Logo was displayed.

Our campaign did well! We served 1,531,155 impressions (impressions are how many times the audio ad ran), received 14,435 clicks (clicks are number of people who accessed our website), and achieved a click-through rate of 0.94%. When they click the ad the person was taken to our WIC Families webpage. The Pandora industry standard for public health organizations is 0.91%. Our campaign results were better than the public health standard. If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact D'Anne Ward at 1-800-392-8209 or email Danne.Ward@health.mo.gov (ONE ATTACHMENT)

SUBJECT 4: Reminder And Clarification Of Foster Child Households. This is a reminder to LWPs to create a new household in MOWINS for each foster child when a child is in the legal custody of the state Children’s Division. WOM ER # 3.02000 says that a foster child is a separate household from the foster family and each foster child is considered a household size of one. Foster children who are siblings must each have their own household in MOWINS.

WOM ER # 3.03950 states “The LWP shall give a Participant ID Folder to each participating household.” Foster families should always have the folders available, as there are times when the child may be moved to another family/location, and will need to take their Food Instruments that have not been redeemed. LWPs must ensure that required signatures are entered on the folder to allow the authorized representative or proxy to redeem food instruments. Retailer personnel should only compare the signature on the front of the folder with the signature on the food instrument, but should not open the folder. If you have questions, please contact your assigned TA Team

SUBJECT 5: Thanksgiving Holiday. The State WIC Office will be closed and there will be no WIC Help Desk coverage on Thanksgiving, November 27 and the day after, November 28, 2014.

If you have questions, please contact Mark Davis at Mark.Davis@health.mo.gov or 573-526-5323 or 800-392-8209
