SUBJECT 1: LWP Funding Survey: The USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has contracted with Altarum Institute and RTI International to conduct a comprehensive study of WIC Nutrition Services and Administration (NSA) costs at state and local WIC agencies. FNS is interested in understanding the ways in which NSA grant funds are utilized, the range of operations covered by NSA funds, and the impact of the program changes on NSA grant funds. All state and local WIC agencies are included in this WIC NSA Cost study.
One of the study activities that involves all local agencies is the completion of a web survey that focuses on the ways in which local agencies utilize the funds to operate WIC services. You will be receiving information about the web survey directly from RTI in July with instructions on accessing the secure survey website and completing the survey. We encourage you to complete the web survey by the requested completion date of October 1, 2014. This study will be important to inform USDA about the full range of valuable services that are performed with WIC NSA funds. We would like all of Missouri’s WIC agencies to provide input through this web survey. Thank you.

SUBJECT 2: Microcuvettes and Analyzers-Response Requested: It is time to order microcuvettes by completing the survey. Please follow the instructions below to assure your agency receives your supply of microcuvettes and/or analyzer(s):

  1. Microcuvette Survey: Please complete and return the attached survey via email to WICOperations@health.mo.gov by Tuesday, August 5, 2014. This will assure no interruption in the supply of microcuvettes.
  2. Microcuvette Order: The information from the survey will be used to identify the current supply on hand at each agency and to estimate the needs of each agency for the next six months. The microcuvette order will be shipped directly to your agency.
  3. Analyzers: Analyzers are also available to agencies by completing the request and justification. Tell us why you need the analyzer: replace current analyzer; expand services in another room/satellite site; more efficient work flow; other: explain.

Local WIC Provider Confirmation: When you receive the order, please do the following:

  1. Verify the number of microcuvettes received with the number listed on the packing slip.
  2. If the number of microcuvettes received is the same as the packing slip, sign and date the packing slip.
  3. Fax the packing slip to the State WIC Office within one (1) week of receiving the shipment. The fax number is (573) 526-1470. Confirmation on the packing slip is required in order for the State WIC Office to pay for the microcuvettes.

The National WIC Association’s theme for the 40th Anniversary of WIC - WIC: Strengthening Families for 40 Years - helps showcase how the WIC Program is one of our country’s most important public health programs, and how it has enriched the lives of millions of families over the years. We have shortened their animated video clips to 30 seconds and added Missouri WIC’s contact information at the end. These promotional videos can be utilized for your website or other outreach projects and are located at http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/wicturns40.php.
