JOB OPPORTUNITY: Part-Time Nutritionist - Benton County Health Department WIC

SUBJECT 1:  Annual State Inventory Audit.  The State of Missouri Office of Administration has sent out the annual inventory audit.  The State WIC Office will be sending out a spreadsheet listing the inventory for each agency, district office, and area office via email to the WIC Coordinator, or designated contact.  Please review your area/agency’s listing and verify that you have all the items listed.  PLEASE NOTE:  The items listed are ones with a white, numbered “Property of the Office of Administration” tag.  If an item is found, please place an “x” in the box marked Found, save the spreadsheet, and email back to Jason Seehusen (Jason.Seehusen@health.mo.gov).  If the item is NOT in your possession, mark an “x” in the Not Found, Transfer, or Disposed box.  Use this if an item has been surplussed or disposed of.  PLEASE NOTE:  If an item listed is not in your possession, you must send documentation verifying what happened to the item(s).  The spreadsheets are due by September 19, 2014

SUBJECT 2:  Updated WIC Approved Food List (English) Shipping Plan.  The State WIC office plans to ship the WIC Approved Food List (effective October 1, 2014) to all local WIC providers during the week of September 8, 2014.  The new food list will be posted on the WIC Food website on September 5, 2014.  If you have questions, please contact Takako Tagami at Takako.Tagami@health.mo.gov

SUBJECT 3:  Basket Raffle Fundraiser for the Missouri 2014 WIC Conference - Columbia, MO.  “40 Years of WIC, Making A Difference” will be held October 19-21 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia.  The Missouri WIC Association will sponsor the Basket Raffle again this year and would like to invite you to donate a basket to the 2014 Basket Raffle Fundraiser.  The MO WIC Association is hoping to have over 40 baskets to raffle in honor of “40 Years of WIC” so be creative and we hope to see you at the Conference.  Please check the MWA website at www.mowica.org for more information or contact Deb Cullum at 660-665-8491 or cullud@lpha.mopublic.org

SUBJECT 4:  Missouri Breastfeeding Coalition Meeting/Kay Hoover Presentation.  The Missouri Breastfeeding Coalition will have a general meeting and presentation by Kay Hoover on Monday, October 20th in Columbia.  The meeting will take place from 4-6 p.m. after the Missouri WIC Conference at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.  The Kay Hoover presentation includes dinner and will be held from 6-8:30 p.m.  The evening presentation has been approved by IBLCE for 2 LCERPs for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and approval has been requested through CDR for 2 CPEs for Registered Dietitians.  There is a cost to attend the dinner/presentation, with a discount being given to MO Breastfeeding Coalition members.  There is no cost to attend the meeting and you do not need to be a member to attend.  For more information please see the attached registration form or contact Kathy Mertzlufft at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov or at 573-526-4792.  (ONE ATTACHMENT)

SUBJECT 5:  New Breastfeeding Handout and Poster:  A new handout and 8 ˝ x 11 poster titled “Breastfeeding is Important” is available in the DHSS warehouse.  The handout is catalog # 481 and is in English and Spanish and comes in a pad of 50.  There are two different versions of the poster, Caucasian (# 480) and African American (# 484).  A copy of the handout and posters are attached.  If you have any questions about breastfeeding literature, please contact Kathy Mertzlufft at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov or by phone at 573-526-4792.  (THREE ATTACHMENTS)

SUBJECT 6:  Learning Dynamics WIC Tips for August:  Attached is the latest issue of “Customer Service Notes for WIC.”  This issue discusses whether your WIC office “walks the talk” regarding customer service. (ONE ATTACHMENT)

SUBJECT 8:  WIC Conference Questionnaire.  In preparing for the upcoming Town Hall meeting at the WIC Conference, the State Office would like to give LWP Staff the opportunity to recognize their agency, or a fellow agency, for their Dedication to Excellence in Customer Service, Nutrition Education, Breastfeeding Promotion or Teamwork. Please take a moment to complete the online questionnaire and tell us who you would like to nominate as well as why they should be considered for this recognition. The deadline for nominations is Friday, September 5, 2014.
