Breast Pump Order: The state WIC office has limited funding to place an order for double pumping kits, Lactina Select multi-user electric breast pumps, Harmony manual breast pumps and Personal Double Electric single-user breast pumps. Single-user means that this pump is not meant to be shared with other women, so this pump will be given to mothers who meet the following criteria:
- Mother must be separated from her infant at least 32 hours per week.
- Mother must be planning to offer breast milk exclusively to her infant and committed to continued long-term exclusive breastfeeding.
- Infant must be receiving no formula from WIC or any other source.
- Pump cannot be provided to the mother before 4 weeks post partum. If a mother needs a pump before then, she may be loaned a multi-user electric breast pump.
For each participant that is provided this pump, the Single User Personal Electric Breast Pump Agreement/Questionnaire (attached) must be completed. It is important that you promote this pump to prenatal women and use as an additional incentive to promote exclusive breastfeeding.
If you would like to request any of these items for your agency, please complete the attached order form and email to Jeannie.Phelps@health.mo.gov by COB on Friday, March 29, 2013. Please keep in mind that funding is limited, so only order what you need. If you have any questions please contact Kathy Mertzlufft at 573-526-4792 or by email at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov. MOWINS Release 2.18: The next push of a new release to MOWINS will be on Monday, July 22, 2013. This release has approximately 18 enhancements to the clinic application. In addition to the enhancements, there are well over 100 defect fixes. Because of the complexity of the enhancements in this release, we will be conducting live webinar/phone conference calls with all agencies rather than providing recorded webinars as we have done in the past. Please review the attached spreadsheet “Live Webinars-Calls for Release 2.18 - Agency Dates” for the dates scheduled and the date your agency has been assigned. For each date listed, there will be two calls: 8:30am to 11:30 am and 1 pm to 4 pm.
We require that at least one person from each agency that works in MOWINS attend; however your agency can have as many staff attend as you wish. We are limited to 30 phone lines per call so we ask that you use one phone line if more than one staff attends. If there are extenuating circumstances and your agency cannot attend the date on the spreadsheet or if you will have more than one staff and need to send them on different dates, please contact Florence Minor (Florence.Minor@health.mo.gov). An electronic registration form will be sent out within the next few weeks so that you can register for this live webinar/phone call.
The enhancements in this release have been discussed in detail with the Local Agency Task Force (MOWINS) and they recommend that you allow an extra 15 minutes per appointment on July 22, and possibly a few days after that, until you get acclimated to the enhancements. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact Melissa.Seaver@health.mo.gov. Over Issuance of Benefits-Important Please Read: There is the possibility of benefits being over-issued to participants due to a defect in MOWINS that has to do with the month of February having only 28 days. This issue has been entered in JIRA, our issue tracking software, and a fix for this is being worked on. In the meantime, please review the attached document for directions on how to handle this issue. If you have any questions regarding this issue, please contact the WIC Help Desk at 800-554-2544 or WICHelpDesk@health.mo.gov. (ONE ATTACHMENT)
As always, the best way to avoid over-issuance from occurring is to Print Preview all checks before printing them, and review the checks again after they have been printed to minimize any over-issuance checks “going out the door”.
WIC Fraud Reporting: In an effort to reduce participant and vendor fraud, the Missouri WIC program has implemented an online fraud reporting tool. A link to the tool is located on the main WIC web page at http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/index.php and is called, “Report WIC Fraud”. (The direct link to the reporting tool is: http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/wicfraudform.php.) Information regarding reporting sources will be kept confidential and reports can also be made anonymously. The state WIC office will receive daily notices of any allegations of fraud that are reported. If you have any questions regarding this tool, or if you have any questions about allegations of participant fraud, please contact Debby Hanlon at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 800-392-8209.

Two Bite Club Education Resource: The newly revised Two Bite Club book for young children is a great tool for teaching good nutrition to young children. This educational storybook was developed to introduce MyPlate to preschoolers. Parents or caregivers can read the book to children and encourage them to try foods from each food group by eating just two bites, just like the characters in the story. The back of the book contains a MyPlate coloring page, a blank certificate for the Two Bite Club, fun activity pages for kids, and Tips for Growing Healthy Eaters. The book is currently available on-line. This spring, printed copies will be available and individual student copies may be ordered at that time. http://teamnutrition.usda.gov/Resources/2biteclub.html. If you have any questions, please discuss with your TA nutritionist.
- Nutrition Assessment Forms in Nepali: The WIC nutrition assessment forms in Nepali will be posted on the WIC website during the week of March 18, 2013. If you have any questions and/or suggestions for WIC resources in different languages, please feel free to contact Takako Tagami at Takako.Tagami@health.mo.gov.
