Public Comment Invited on 2014 WIC State Plan: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is soliciting public comment on the proposed Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Special Supplemental Nutrition Program FFY 2014 State Plan, which covers the period beginning October 1, 2013 and ending September 30, 2014. The State Plan describes the State agency's objectives and procedures for all aspects of WIC Program administration for the 2014 federal fiscal year. The State Plan is located at http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/wiclwp/stateplan2014.php. All public comments are welcome and should be directed to the attention of Susan.White@health.mo.gov via email, fax 573-526-1470 or mail to Susan White, WIC and Nutrition Services, P.O. Box 570, 930 Wildwood Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0570. Comments will be included in the final copy of the plan which will be submitted to the US Department of Agriculture. All comments are due to the Department of Health and Senior Services by July 12, 2013 to allow time for incorporation into the final document.
2. Revised Nutrition Risk Criteria WOM Policies: USDA recently revised WIC nutrition risk criteria for four nutrition risk factors. As a result, five Missouri nutrition WOM policies were revised (attached). These policies will go into effect on July 22, 2013 and will be included in the WOM at http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/wiclwp/wom/ on Monday, July 1, 2013.
The Nutrition Assessment (NA) forms will be changing July 22. During the Nutrition Assessment transition, it is recommended not to provide a “current” Nutrition Assessment form to any participant who will be certified on or after July 22. This eliminates the participant completing both the “old” and “new” forms. Use of the hard copy new NA forms is not mandatory as the same questions will be in MOWINS, thus using the hard copy forms is optional. The NA questions in MOWINS are mandatory. Attached are the new 1 page Nutrition Assessment forms that are effective July 22.
This information will be shared with all LWPS during the trainings June 24-28 and July 8-9.
