  1. Breast Pump Order: The state WIC office has limited funding to place another order for double pumping kits, Lactina Select multi-user electric breast pumps, Harmony manual breast pumps and Personal Double Electric single-user breast pumps. Single-user means that this pump is not meant to be shared with other women, so this pump will be given to mothers who meet the following criteria:

      1. Mother must be separated from her infant at least 32 hours per week.
      2. Mother must be planning to offer breast milk exclusively to her infant and committed to continued long-term exclusive breastfeeding.
      3. Infant must be receiving no formula from WIC or any other source.
      4. Pump cannot be provided to the mother before 4 weeks post partum. If a mother needs a pump before then, she may be loaned a multi-user electric breast pump.

For each participant that is provided this pump, the Single User Personal Electric Breast Pump Agreement/Questionnaire (attached) must be completed. It is important that you promote this pump to prenatal women and use as an additional incentive to promote exclusive breastfeeding.

If you would like to request any of these items for your agency, please complete the attached order form and email to Jeannie.Phelps@health.mo.gov by COB on Friday, August 9, 2013. Please keep in mind that funding is limited, so only order what you need. If you have any questions please contact Kathy Mertzlufft at 573-526-4792 or by email at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov. 2. Safety Questions on Nutrition Assessment (NA) Forms: Some LWP staff members have asked for guidance from the State office regarding the safety questions that were added to the NA. The main concern that we have heard from our local agencies is what should be done if the participant does have safety concerns; what referral organizations are available? The following response is from the MO DHSS Office of Women’s Health when they receive a call about safety concerns:

    • If you are a victim of sexual assault or violence and abuse in your home, you are not alone--call for help. The following hotlines are available 24 hours a day:
      • National Domestic Violence Hotline
        800-799-SAFE (7233)
        TDD: 800-787-3224
      • National Sexual Assault Hotline
      • 800-656-HOPE (4673)
    • If you find yourself in danger, try to find a safe place away from your attacker. Then call 911 or the police.
    • Remember, the victim is never at fault.
    • To learn more about these types of violence, as well as stalking, dating violence, and more, visit www.womenshealth.gov/violence-against-women.

Also available on the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence’s website is a Missouri map that directs individuals to local service providers, http://www.mocadsv.org/How%20to%20Get%20Help.aspx.

Hopefully this information will be of help to you. If you have any concerns, please discuss with your TA Nutritionist.

  3. Fourth Quarter Holiday Clinic Hours: We are asking agencies to complete a brief survey https://webapp03.dhss.mo.gov/snapwebhost/surveylogin.asp?k=137415235097 to determine WIC Help Desk coverage for the following upcoming holidays: Columbus Day (October 14), Veterans Day (November 11), the day after Thanksgiving (November 29) and Christmas Eve (December 24). The survey will be open from August 1 through August 15 for completion. Questions may be directed to Dora Crawford at dora.crawford@health.mo.gov or by calling 800-392-8209 or 573-751-3661.

  4. New WIC Approved Food List - Spanish version: On July 25, 2013, the DHSS warehouse shipped the Missouri WIC Approved Food List (Spanish version) to 92 local WIC providers who made this request in June 2013. If your agency does not receive the Spanish food list by July 30, 2013, please contact Takako Tagami at Takako.tagami@health.mo.gov. If your agency would like to order these Spanish food lists, please use the WIC & Breastfeeding Resource Request form (WIC 8).

  5. WIC Approved Food List Feedback Survey: During the week of July 29, 2013, local WIC coordinators will receive a link to provide feedback on the new WIC Approved Food List. Please complete the survey by August 16, 2013. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Takako Tagami, at Takako.tagami@health.mo.gov.

  6. MOWINS Release 2.18 Q&A Session: Mark your calendars for August 2, 2013 from 8:30am to 10:30am. There will be a Q&A session to discuss the new release. This is open to all agencies and state staff. There is no registration. This is a phone call only and will not include a Power Point presentation. Please note that there are a limited number of phone lines for this call so we ask that if you have multiple attendees, you use one phone line whenever possible. This is your opportunity to ask questions about any issues you’ve had with the new release. The call in phone number was sent in an e-mail to all agency coordinators (WIC, Nutrition, Vendor, and Breastfeeding) on July 24, 2013 from Melissa Seaver. If you have any questions, please contact Melissa.Seaver@health.mo.gov.

  7. Microcuvettes and Analyzers - Response Requested: It is time to order microcuvettes by completing the survey. Please follow the instructions below to assure your agency receives your supply of microcuvettes and/or analyzer.

      1. Microcuvette Survey: Please complete and return the attached survey via e-mail to WICOperations@health.mo.gov by Tuesday, August 6, 2013. This will assure no interruption in the supply of microcuvettes.
      2. Microcuvette Order: The information from the survey will be used to identify the current supply on hand at each agency and to estimate the needs of each agency for the next six months. The microcuvette order will be shipped directly to your agency.
      3. Analyzers: Analyzers are also available to agencies by completing the request and justification. Tell us why you need the analyzer: replace current analyzer; expand services in another room/satellite site; more efficient work flow; other: explain.

Local WIC Provider Confirmation: When you receive the order please do the
    following:

      1. Verify the number of microcuvettes received with the number listed on the packing slip.
      2. If the number of microcuvettes in the package is the same as the packing slip, sign and date the packing slip.
      3. Fax the packing slip to the State WIC Office within one (1) week of receiving the shipment. The fax number is (573) 526-1470. Confirmation on the packing slip is required in order for the State WIC Office to pay for the microcuvettes.
      4. If the number of microcuvettes received is different from the packing slip, please call Lori Baysinger at 800-392-8209. Thank you for your cooperation. (ONE ATTACHMENT)
