Fundamentals of Breastfeeding-An 18 Hour Course: The state WIC office is hosting the “Fundamentals of Breastfeeding: An 18 Hour Course” in two different locations throughout the state. This training is for nutritionists, nurses and peer counselors who need a comprehensive course to prepare them to assist breastfeeding mothers with normal lactation and common breastfeeding challenges. Dates and training sites are currently scheduled for Springfield (May 15th- May 17th) and Columbia (May 29th -31st). If you would like to attend this training please complete the attached registration form and email to Reba.Brown@health.mo.gov. Feel free to share information on this training to area health care providers that may be interested in attending. 2013-2014 Department of Health and Senior Services Program for Dietetic Interns: We are pleased to announce that the four dietetic interns to begin in August 2013 have been selected. All four of the incoming interns are from local WIC provider agencies and will bring a valuable perspective to the program. We had some excellent candidates for the Missouri Program. Our interns are: Rachel Barry (Douglas Co. & Ozark Co.), Adrienne Olah (Springfield-Greene Co.), Alysha Seals (Johnson Co.), and Samantha Seeman (Columbia-Boone Co.). New WIC Nutrition Education Brochures & Updated WIC 7 Form: The following nutrition education brochures are available for WIC participants:
- MyPlate - Kids/Preschoolers - English
- MyPlate - Kids/Preschoolers - Spanish
- Which foods have iron? - English
- Which foods have iron? - Spanish

REMINDER-WIC Help Desk Meeting: This is a reminder that there will be no WIC Help Desk coverage on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. Although staff will not be available during these hours, feel free to leave a message and all calls will be returned as soon as possible. The purpose of these meetings is to review processes and procedures in order to provide the highest quality customer service to local agencies and WIC participants.
In our ongoing efforts to better our customer service, please remember to complete the WIC Help Desk Customer Service Survey regarding your experience when contacting the WIC Help Desk. Microcuvette & Analyzer Deliveries: Agencies scheduled to receive a shipment of microcuvettes and/or analyzers should begin receiving their shipment the week of February 12, 2013.
Once you have received your order, please verify the number of microcuvettes and analyzers received with the number listed on the packing slip. If the number of microcuvettes/analyzers in the package is the same as the packing slip, sign and date the packing slip. Please fax the packing slip to Laura at 573-526-1470, within one week of receiving the shipment. Confirmation on the packing slip is required in order for the State WIC Office to pay for the microcuvettes and send WIC tags for the analyzers. If the number of microcuvettes/analyzers received is different from the packing slip, please call Lori Baysinger at 800-392-8209. If you are unable to locate your packing slip, please send an email stating how many boxes or analyzers you received and the date you received the shipment to Laura.Weiler@health.mo.gov.
