  1. Breastfeeding Campaign: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) officially launched the It’s Only Natural campaign to offer African American moms the knowledge, help, and support they need to breastfeed. This campaign is uniquely positioned to provide materials that reflect the experience of African American moms. These materials include:

    • Digital platform and website with mom-to-mom video testimonials;
    • How To fact sheets posted on the website; and
    • 30 and 60 second radio PSA on benefits on breastfeeding and promote the website

    You’ll find these resources at www.womenshealth.gov/ItsOnlyNatural. If you have any questions please contact Kathy Mertzlufft at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov or by phone at 573-526-4792.

  2. “Using Loving Support to Grow and Glow in WIC” Training: Due to a large number of staff needing to attend this training in the St. Louis area, we have scheduled a training at the St. Charles Health Department on September 16 & 17, 2013. To register for this training please use the attached registration form and email to Reba Brown at Reba.Brown@health.mo.gov.

    Please remember that all new WIC agency staff are required to attend this training. Nutritionist and CPAs must attend both days of training and all other staff (WIC Coordinators, WIC Clerks, HPAs, Certifiers, etc.) need only attend the first day, with the second day being optional. 4. National Infant Immunization Week, April 20-27, 2013: In conjunction with National Infant Immunization Week, April 20-27, 2013, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is encouraging Missourians to take some time to ensure their children and all family members are adequately immunized against vaccine-preventable diseases. National Infant Immunization Week is held each year to highlight the importance of protecting children two years and younger from vaccine-preventable diseases. This year’s theme is: Immunizations: Power to Protect.

    In response to a request by some LWP’s, the Bureau of Immunization Assessment and Assurance has a DVD that contains personal stories of families affected by vaccine-preventable diseases. These videos stress the importance of immunizations. Please play them in your waiting rooms during WIC clinic hours. LWP’s can request the DVD by sending an email or calling Lynelle Paro using the contact information Lynelle.Paro@health.mo.gov or by calling her 573.526.7659. If you have any questions, please contact Lynelle Paro.
