SUBJECT 1: Safeboot on Laptops - Important

  1. Safeboot on Laptops- Important: All WIC laptops have Safeboot installed on them. Safeboot encrypts the data on the laptop so that if it is stolen the data will be unreadable as long as the password is not known by the thief. Therefore never attach a note to the laptop that contains the password.

ITSD recently made a change that requires all WIC laptops to be connected to the network at least once a month to receive necessary updates. If you already use the laptop on a regular basis to go on MOWINS, you won’t need to make a change. However, if you rarely use a laptop, you need to connect it to your local agency network within the next two weeks and leave it connected all day (to update Safeboot, Symantec, Windows and log onto MOWINS for WIC updates). You must do this at least every 30 days. If you do not do this on a monthly basis, you will not be able to log on the laptop and will need to contact ITSD to have the Safeboot password and/or isolation period reset. This is not a simple process and may take several minutes to accomplish.
