Change in Local Agency Monitoring Assignments: Missouri WIC has been studying ways to reduce State Agency spending. As a cost savings measure, beginning in FFY13 WIC Technical Assistance (TA) staff will monitor agencies in their own districts to decrease travel expenses associated with local agency contract monitoring. Since it is so close to the beginning of the FFY13, some monitor visits have already been scheduled by other monitoring staff. If you have received a letter confirming your FFY13 monitor visit, the team who scheduled the October monitor visit will continue with that visit, instead of your District TA team. If you have questions about WIC contract monitoring, please contact your TA team or call the WIC state office at 1-800-392-8209.
Updated WOM Policies: USDA has recently approved 27 updated WOM policies. All of these, except for two, will go into effect on October 1, 2012. The other two, related to the food package change, to allow cheese as an option for all women and children, go into effect on October 9, 2012. See the attachment for the list of polices that have been updated. These updated policies will be included on the WOM: http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/wiclwp/wom on the dates indicated above.
If you have questions, please contact Mark Davis at Mark.Davis@health.mo.gov or 573-526-5323 or 800-392-8209 (ONE ATTACHMENT)

This change does not require creating new food prescriptions. However, it is important to share the following important messages with staff:
- Local WIC provider staff must log off MOWINS after your office business hours on Monday, October 8, 2012 or the last day you have clinic before October 9 in order to receive the food item updates on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
- When users log on to MOWINS on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, they should click both “Reset Local Reference Data” and “Update Local Reference Data”.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact WIC Help Desk at 1-800-554-2544.
Abbott Nutrition: The state WIC office received notification from Abbott Nutrition of an upgrade in their order processing system. During their upgrade there will be a blackout period for orders and shipping. Starting at 5 pm EST (4 pm Central) on October 31, 2012 through the morning of November 5th, Abbott will not allow us to place any orders for direct shipping of formula. Please be aware that the state WIC office will not be able to order and ship any formula via direct shipping that is needed from Abbott Nutrition during this time period. This only pertains to formula that your agency needs to have direct shipped to your agency that is an Abbott product. The vendors will still carry the usual Abbott Nutrition products that your WIC participants have been getting at the WIC vendor. If you have any questions, please contact your TA nutritionist.
Food Package Change Notification Poster and Insert: The Food Package Change Notification poster and insert have been developed for local WIC providers. The State office mailed the posters to all local WIC providers on September 28, 2012. Please look for the envelope (9” x 12”) labeled “Cheese Poster” during the week of October 1, 2012. Both poster and insert in English are available through the WIC Food website. Please feel free to download and make copies as needed. Both poster and insert are being translated into 14 languages and will be available on the website by the middle of October 2012. If you have any questions and/or suggestions, please contact your TA nutritionist.
Help WIC Work poster Addressing Participant Fraud: The LWPS should have received in the mail a letter and poster titled Help WIC Work. This is a poster that should be posted in your participant waiting areas. This fraud prevention poster has information including examples of potential fraud (selling WIC checks or formula/food through websites such as eBay and Craigslist) and contact information if a person suspects potential fraud and wishes to contact the State WIC Office. Please post the poster in a highly-visible area, such as the participant waiting room. Attached is the poster if you want to copy it and post it in additional areas of your health clinics. If you have any questions, please contact the State WIC Office at (573) 751-6204 or 1-800-392-8209 or contact your District TA staff persons. (ONE ATTACHMENT)
