Save the Date “Business Case for Breastfeeding Conference”: Wright County WIC is hosting “The Business Case for Breastfeeding” on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in West Plains and Thursday, July 19, 2012 in St. Charles. This conference covers how to present the “business case” for breastfeeding to employers, including understanding employer barriers to providing breastfeeding support, “business” messages that resonate, and creative outreach strategies. Information on how to register will be provided at a later date. If you have questions please contact Kathy Mertzlufft by email at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov or by phone at 573-526-4792 or Tracy Hardcastle, Wright County Administrator, at email@example.com or by phone at 417-741-7791.
“Using Loving Support to Grow and Glow in WIC” Training: Due to a large number of staff needing to attend this training in the Kansas City area, a training has been scheduled at the Clay County Health Department on June 28 & 29, 2012. Please remember that all new WIC agency staff is required to attend. Nutritionists and CPAs must attend both days of training and all other staff (WIC Coordinators, WIC Clerks, HPAs, Certifiers, etc.) need to only attend the first day, with the second day being optional. Information on how to register for this training will be coming soon. If you have any questions please contact Kathy Mertzlufft at 573-526-4792 or by email at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov for more information.
Nutrition Assessment Forms and VENA Questions in MOWINS Task Force: The Nutrition Assessment forms and the VENA questions in MOWINS will be changing later this year. There is a team of local agency and state agency staff who are working on this project. If you have ideas or suggestions on either the NA forms or the VENA questions in MOWINS, please share your ideas with any of the VENA/NA Task Force members. The list of members is on the attached. Resource Order Survey-Sesame Street Food For Thought Toolkits: The toolkits are available for participant nutrition education. During the week of February 21, 2012, WIC Coordinators will receive an order survey from Takako Tagami. It is very important that your agency complete the survey by March 15, 2012. Information about this toolkit is available through the web, by clicking HERE. If you have questions and/or suggestions; please feel free to contact Takako Tagami at Takako.Tagami@health.mo.gov.
Beechnut Tearpads: It has been reported that the Beechnut Company has been sending product information tearpads to the LWPS to be given to WIC participants. Not all agencies are receiving these tearpads. The education message that Beechnut states, conflicts with our WIC program nutrition messages specifically feeding the 4–6 month old infant. Please discard any Beechnut tearpads that your agency has received. We do not want to give conflicting nutrition messages to our WIC participants. If you have any questions, please contact your district TA nutritionist.
Missouri Voter Registration Application Forms: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) has been working closely with the Missouri Secretary of State’s (SOS) office in promoting voter registration in Missouri. Two voter registration forms are available in the DHSS warehouse:
- Missouri Voter Registration Application Form - WIC/MVR-1 (MO 231-0167) – This number is located on the very bottom left hand corner of the form. This form is to be used by local WIC providers and must be given to WIC participants only.
