  1. Funding for the Missouri 2012 WIC Conference held October 22-24 in Jefferson City: This is a reminder that DHSS will pay registration for a pre-determined number of staff members from Local WIC Agencies based on caseload size. LWPs must still register each staff member attending, regardless of who is paying. If you wish to send more staff than allowed by your caseload (see chart below), you may use regular WIC funds and bill the cost of registration.

Below is a chart to show how many LWP staff the State agency will reimburse the local agency to send to the Conference.

The FFY13 LAP SF5 has been loaded with funds to cover mileage, meals and lodging for staff members allowable according to DHSS. If your agency sends more staff than allowed by DHSS caseload limit, you may bill additional mileage, meals and lodging using regular WIC funds on the October ’12 (FFY13) WIC Invoice. LWP’s are responsible for their own hotel reservations. Please contact your TA staff if you have questions.

  2. Missouri’s 2012 WIC Conference - Jefferson City: “The Magic of WIC” will be held October 22-24, 2012 at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. The conference offers opportunities to network with WIC colleagues, keep up-to-date on nutrition and breastfeeding trends, visit with participating WIC exhibitors, and a chance to meet and discuss current WIC topics with State staff. See attached for a draft of the At-A- Glance. Please start planning now to attend this great conference! If you have any questions, please contact Brenda Brewer at Brenda.Brewer@tmcmed.org. 3. Customer Services Notes for WIC from Learning Dynamics: Attached is the latest issue of “Customer Service Notes for WIC.” This issue discusses demonstrating self-restraint in what we say to participants. We receive these tips from Learning Dynamics. If you have any questions, please contact your district TA nutritionist. (ONE ATTACHMENT)

  4. Update - National WIC Association’s (NWA) 2013 Calendars: The State WIC office would like to thank local WIC providers who responded to the NWA calendar survey in May 2012. The State WIC office has purchased the 2013 NWA calendars; however, the number of calendars purchased is less than requested due to funding. The DHSS warehouse plans to ship the calendars to local WIC providers early October 2012. If your agency has any questions, please feel free to contact Takako Tagami at Takako.Tagami@health.mo.gov.

  5. Microcuvette & Analyzer Deliveries: Agencies scheduled to receive a shipment of microcuvettes and/or analyzers should begin receiving their shipment the week of August 20, 2012.

Once you have received your order, please verify the number of microcuvettes and analyzers received with the number listed on the packing slip. If the number of microcuvettes/analyzers in the package is the same as the packing slip, sign and date the packing slip. Please fax the packing slip to Laura at 573-526-1470, within one week of receiving the shipment. Confirmation on the packing slip is required in order for the State WIC Office to pay for the microcuvettes and send WIC tags for the analyzers. If the number of microcuvettes/analyzers received is different from the packing slip, please call Lori Baysinger at 800-392-8209. If you are unable to locate your packing slip, please send an email stating how many boxes or analyzers you received and the date you received the shipment to Laura.Weiler@health.mo.gov. Thank you for your prompt cooperation.

  6. Mandatory New and Revised WIC Nutrition Risk Criteria Training Webinar: The New and Revised WIC Nutrition Risk Criteria Training Webinar (pre-recorded) has been posted. The webinar is posted on the LWP Training Page located here (scroll toward the bottom of the page).

The purpose of the training is to provide the certifying staff (WIC Certifier, CPA/Nutritionist) with information on new and revised risk factors based on the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Growth Charts for Children Aged 0-59 Months. One hour of Continuing Nutrition Education (CNE) will be offered for completing this training.

Prior to implementation, and after the release of the mandatory training, the state office has scheduled conference calls which will allow LWPs to ask questions regarding the information provided. These conference calls are optional but encouraged.
