  1. “Using Loving Support to Grow and Glow in WIC” Training:  Due to a large number of staff needing to attend this training in the Kansas City area, we have scheduled another training at Clay County Health Department on August 31 & September 1, 2011.  To register for this training, please use the attached registration form.

Please remember that all new WIC agency staff are required to attend this training.  Nutritionist and CPAs must attend both days of training and all other staff (WIC Coordinators, WIC Clerks, HPAs, Certifiers, etc.) need to only attend the first day, with the second day being optional.  For more information on this training please go to WIC-WICLWP Training or contact Kathy Mertzlufft at 573-526-4792 or by email at for more information. 2. Battery Pack for New Breast Pumps:  The new Single User Personal Double Electric Breast Pumps that were just received last week do not include the battery pack like the pumps that we have received in the past.  It is recommended to remove the battery packs from the any pumps that you currently have in inventory and only provide those to the mothers that need them.  If you need to order additional battery packs you can order off of our state contract for a cost $9 each.  Contact Kathy Mertzlufft at 573-526-4792 or by email at for assistance on ordering off of our state contract or for any other questions.

  3. May WIC Invoices:  WIC Invoices for May 2011, and prior months, submitted for payment in the month of June must be submitted through the Online WIC Invoicing System by close of business on Tuesday, June 7, 2011.  Invoices submitted after that date will be held and paid in July, 2011.  This change in schedule complies with the close of State Fiscal Year 2011 payment processing deadlines.  If you have questions please contact Laura Weiler at or 573-526-7901.

  4. Review of Publications and Advertisements:  There has been some confusion regarding the review of publications and advertisements (refer to the May 10th WIC Updates).  Debby Hanlon will review materials that are not related to nutrition education and breastfeeding.  Nutrition education and breastfeeding materials should be reviewed by the assigned Technical Assistance (TA) nutritionist. Debby will review “generic” materials such as brochures, advertisements or other materials for outreach, etc.
If you have any questions regarding who should review materials specific to your agency, please contact a member of your TA team.

  5. Free Breastfeeding Materials:  The USDA, Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) has made available some free breastfeeding materials for local WIC providers. To order “Fathers Supporting Breastfeeding” (a 2002 video now available on DVD), posters and video discussion guide go to their website.

FNS still has “Breastfeeding: A Magical Bond of Love” materials that promote breastfeeding among the Hispanic population available. Go to their website to order the DVD, brochures and posters.
