  1. Microcuvette and Analyzer Deliveries: Agencies scheduled to receive a shipment of microcuvettes and/or analyzers should be receiving their shipment this week, August 29, 2011.

Once you have received your order, please verify the number of microcuvettes and analyzers received with the number listed on the packing slip.  If the number of microcuvettes/analyzers in the package is the same as the packing slip, sign and date the packing slip. Please fax the packing slip to Leslie at the State WIC Office (573-526-1470) within one (1) week of receiving the shipment.  Confirmation on the packing slip is required in order for the State WIC Office to pay for the microcuvettes.  If the number of microcuvettes/analyzers received is different from the packing slip, please call Leslie at 1-800-392-8209.  If you are unable to locate your packing slip, please send an email stating how many boxes or analyzers you received and the date you received the shipment to Leslie.Worrell@health.mo.gov.  Thank you for your prompt cooperation.

  2. Smoking Cessation Research Study Needs Participants: In the November 30, 2009 WIC Updates, we posted information  on the Oregon Center for Applied Science Inc. (ORCAS),  which had been recently funded by the National Cancer Institute to develop and evaluate a smoking cessation and relapse prevention intervention for pregnant and postpartum women.  ORCAS is a public health research organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families.  Smoking cessation and preventing relapse is one of the most primary health strategies for preventing and minimizing diseases such as childhood asthma and other debilitating health issues.  They have requested our assistance in distributing information to WIC clients about participation in this research study.

ORCAS is now working on a research study to develop an Internet program to help pregnant women quit smoking and stay quit.  If participants are eligible, sign up and take the online survey, they will receive $75.00.  The time to take the survey is 20-30 minutes.  A flyer with more information is attached.  If you have participants that may be interested and are qualified, we encourage you to post the attached flyers or give them to interested participants.

For more information please contact Susan Schroeder, MPH, MCHES, PMP, sschroeder@orcasinc.com, 541-349-4854 or Mary Hetrick, mhetrick@orcasinc.com, 541-349-4834. (ONE ATTACHMENT)
