- “Using Loving Support to Grow and Glow in WIC” Training: Due to a large number of staff needing to attend this training in the southeast part of the state, we have scheduled another training in Cape Girardeau on July 27 & 28, 2011 at the Cape Girardeau Health Department. To register for this training, please use the attached registration form.
Please remember that all NEW local agency WIC staff are required to attend this training. Nutritionist and CPAs must attend both days of training and all other staff (WIC Coordinators, WIC Clerks, HPAs, Certifiers, etc.) need to only attend the first day, with the second day being optional. For more information on this training please go to WIC-WICLWP Training or contact Kathy Mertzlufft at 573-526-4792 or by email at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov for more information. (ONE ATTACHMENT)
PRAMS Information: The Missouri Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) is an ongoing population-based surveillance system that monitors specific maternal behaviors during pregnancy and two months postpartum. Data is collected through a mailed survey from women who have had a recent live birth. The attached PRAMS sheet is related to breastfeeding and provides information on Missouri breastfeeding rates and women’s reported barriers to breastfeeding. If you have any questions about breastfeeding rates or the PRAMS information sheet please contact Kathy Mertzlufft at 573-526-4792 or by email at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov. (ONE ATTACHMENT)
Breast Pump Trade-In: We are currently negotiating a deal with Medela to trade our Bailey Nurture III and non-working Lactina Select breast pumps for new Lactina Select breast pumps at a substantial cost savings. In order to do that, we need to know how many of these pumps each of our local WIC providers have that they would like to trade in for new Lactina Select breast pumps. If your agency has any Bailey Nurture III breast pumps (working or non-working) or non-working Lactina Select breast pumps to trade in, please email Kathy Mertzlufft at Kathy.Mertzlufft@health.mo.gov with the WIC tag number and serial number of each pump by COB Friday, May 6th. Please keep in mind that any broken Medela Lactina Selects that are under warranty should be repaired through Medela. The warranty period is 3 years from the date of purchase. If you are unsure if your broken pump can be repaired under warranty, please call Medela customer service at 888-633-3528.
Once everything is finalized with Medela, additional information will be provided on how to trade in the old pump for a new one. If you have any questions please contact Kathy Mertzlufft at 573-526-4792 or by email at the address above.
Truman Holiday- WIC Help Desk Coverage: The State WIC Office will be closed but there will be WIC Help Desk coverage from 8:00 am -5:00 pm on Truman Day, May 9, 2011.

Saturday WIC Clinic Hours Survey: To prepare for upcoming MOWINS releases, the state office is gathering information about the hours WIC clinics are open on Saturdays. Please complete the brief survey. The survey will be closed on May 15, 2011. State WIC Staff Pictorial Directory: In the past year there have been several staff changes in the State WIC office. These new staff include: Leona Greer – Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator in the Nutrition Group; Aaron Forsythe – EBT Project Coordinator; Hope Opehem – MOWINS Testing Specialist; Kristy Schultz – Health Rep. in the Southwest District; Jason Seehusen – Support Staff for the Vendor Unit; Ellen Whittington – Support Staff for the Customer Service Unit; and Debby Hanlon – Health Rep. in the Central District. The following staff has left the State WIC office for job promotions and new opportunities: Teri Utter, Bridgette Buschjost, Beth Thompson, and Jayna Slade. Larry Rutledge from the Customer Service Unit also retired last year. The State WIC office has updated its pictorial directory of State agency staff. Each staff person in the State office is pictured with their title, a brief description of their area of responsibility and telephone number. Since we do not always have the opportunity to meet each other face to face, we hope this will help you put a name to a face when you call our office.
