SUBJECT 2: Program for Dietetic Interns Reminder
SUBJECT 3: Plastic Sleeve Shipment

  1. Quarts and Half Gallons of Milk:  It appears that some local agency staff are still confused regarding the allowance of quarts and half gallons of milk at the grocery stores.  Quarts and/or half gallons of regular/standard fluid milk (whole, 2% and skim milks) issued as a prorated food package are allowed on the checks that you give to WIC participants.  The vendors may or may not carry the quarts and half gallons in their stores as we do not require them to stock these sizes.  You may want to check with the vendors in your area so you know whether they do or do not have milk available in quarts and half gallons. Please educate your participants accordingly.

This does not pertain to Lactaid Milk or Soy Milk or Goat Milk or any other specialty milks.  Lactaid Milk and Soy Milk should be issued only in half gallons.  Goat Milk is available in 12 ounce cans only.  Please review prorated checks to be sure the appropriate food item and size are on the check you give to the participant.   If you have questions, please discuss them with your TA District Nutritionist
  2. Program for Dietetic Interns Reminder:  The Program for Dietetic Interns (PDI) is now taking applications for the 2011-2012 class year.  Up to four interns will be selected from the pre-select option.  This is advantageous for employees of LWPs who are eligible to participate in the pre-select option.  The deadline for the pre-select option is Dec. 15th.  There is no fee for those interns who are employed by the MDHSS WIC program or employed by a Missouri Local WIC Provider.  A $3,000 fee applies to all other interns.  Be sure to use the "new" application form, which is required (see attached).  The Dietetic Internship Recommendation form is also attached for your use.  For more information, visit our website.  If you have any questions, please contact Vicki Strickland at 1- 800-392-8209 or
  3. Plastic Sleeve Shipment:  The State WIC office has been shipping plastic sleeves to local WIC providers on a quarterly basis.  WIC Coordinators/supply contact persons will receive an e-mail message during the week of November 15, 2010 with a link to the survey monkey to answer questions about quantities of plastic sleeves that your agency needs.  Please complete the questionnaire by December 15, 2010.  If you have any suggestions and/or questions, please feel free to contact Takako Tagami at
