  3. Microcuvette Survey:  It's time to order Microcuvettes. Please follow the instructions below to assure your agency receives your supply of microcuvettes.
    1. Microcuvette Survey: The Microcuvette Survey will allow us to accurately order supplies of microcuvettes for each Local WIC Provider on a timely basis. Please complete and return the attached survey via e-mail to Barbara.Myers@health.mo.gov by August 23, 2007. This will assure no interruption in the supply of microcuvettes.
    2. Microcuvette Order:  The information from the survey will be used to identify the current supply on hand at each agency and to estimate the needs of each agency for the next six months. The order will be submitted to HemoCue and shipped directly to your agency.
Local WIC Provider Confirmation:  When you receive the order, please verify the number of microcuvettes received with the number listed on the packing slip. If the number of microcuvettes in the package is the same as the packing slip, sign and date the packing slip. Please fax the packing slip to Barbara Myers at the State WIC Office within one (1) week of receiving the shipment. The fax number is 573-526-1470. Confirmation on the packing slip is required in order for the State WIC Office to pay for the microcuvettes. If the number of microcuvettes received is different from the packing slip, please call Barbara Myers at 1-800-392-8209. Thank you for your cooperation.
  4. Fit WIC MO FY07 Evaluation Reminder:  Each local WIC provider that participated in Fit WIC MO in FFY07 is asked to complete the attached evaluation (Table 8). Any agency that wrote a goal, objective, strategy or activity in the FFY07 LAP should complete the evaluation. On the attached form, simply check the nutrition and physical activity goals that your agency selected in FFY07, report how many participants selected each goal and how many were successful at making the behavior change. Then check which activity to support WIC staff or which community activity your agency selected and give a brief report of the results. A few open-ended questions give you the opportunity to tell us what is working well for you and what barriers you are experiencing as you implement Fit WIC MO. Return this electronically to Rita Arni at rita.arni@health.mo.gov no later than September 30, 2007.
  5. New Nutrition Education Handouts in Spanish:  The following attached items are available in Spanish for your WIC participants:

  6. National Infant Immunization Week: National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is an annual observance to promote the benefits of immunizations and to focus on the importance of immunizing infants against vaccine-preventable diseases by age two. This year's celebration is the week of August 21-28, 2007.

National Immunization Week provides an excellent opportunity for local and state health departments, national immunization partners, healthcare providers, and community leaders from across the country to highlight the positive impact of immunization on the lives of infants and children. Hundreds of communities from across the United States are expected to participate in NIIW by planning community awareness and media events to promote infant immunizations to parents, caregivers, healthcare providers, and their communities.

WIC local agencies may wish to join in the celebration by creating their own NIIW event or partnering with other organizations and programs to help to ensure that all WIC infants and children in their communities have a healthy and safe childhood free from vaccine-preventable diseases. For materials and additional information, go to http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/events/niiw/default.htm
  7. Cultural Competency 201: "What WIC Nutritionists Need To Know" - The WIC State office would like to thank LWP staff who participated in Cultural Competency 201: "What WIC Nutritionists Need To Know". The training was successfully completed in six locations during July 2007. A total of 140 WIC staff members from more than 60 local WIC providers completed the training. If your agency would like to have a booklet titled: Cultural Competency 201: "What WIC Nutritionists Need To Know", please e-mail Katie Hollis at Katie.Hollis@health.mo.gov by August 28, 2007. Also, if you have any suggestions and/or questions regarding the WIC Cultural Competency program, please e-mail Takako Tagami at Takako.Tagami@health.mo.gov

  10. 2006 Birth Data: The birth data for calendar year 2006 is now final. The data table includes the final 2006 births, prenatal WIC and prenatal Medicaid numbers by county of residence. This data provides a general picture of how well we are doing in getting Medicaid moms into WIC. You can get more information from the WIC MICA by going to http://www.health.mo.gov/data/mica/MICA/ and clicking on the WIC MICA that pertains to your need.
