  1. Direct Entry (DE) allows the keying of certification data directly into the Health Agency Network Data System (HANDS), eliminating the use of WIC 1 and 2 forms (except as back-ups for system outages).

    As a reminder, agencies may convert to Direct Entry on a voluntary basis. If your agency is interested in converting to Direct Entry, please use the Fax-back form included with this e-mail to notify WIC and Nutrition Services of your interest. Please note any agency replies received by May 25, 2006, may be eligible to convert to Direct Entry during FY 2006 depending upon equipment and resource availability. Additional Direct Entry conversion opportunities may be offered in during FY 2007.

    Sessions are scheduled in various district offices noted on the fax reply form. Training session start-times are specified on the Fax-back form and they should not exceed two(2) hours. State staff will be available for technical assistance with Direct Entry issues after each session.

  1. Attached is WIC Policy Memo WC 06 15 P dated February 3, 2006 from USDA titled USDA Non-Discrimination Statement for WIC Materials . Please note that the memo is an Adobe Acrobat (pdf) file. This Policy Memorandum supersedes the e-mail from USDA dated November 22, 2005, which also provided information pertaining to this topic. The previous email regarding the discrimination statement was sent in the Monday Email December 5, 2005.   2. Breastfeeding Coordinator training is scheduled for April 4 and 5, 2006. The two-day session will provide attendees with updated program information and clarification regarding breastfeeding. New information will be shared regarding policy and procedures on handling breast pumps in your agency. The training will be held in the Governor Office Building, 200 Madison St., Room 450 in Jefferson City.

    Agenda Items include Identifying the Role of the Breastfeeding Coordinator; Loving Support Makes Breastfeeding Work; Communication Skills; Talking with Mothers About Breastfeeding: Early in Pregnancy, During Pregnancy, During the First Two Weeks After Delivery, During Months 1 to 12 and When Mother and Baby are Separated. In addition, Medela will have a presentation on cleaning and maintenance of breast pumps.

    Training Dates: April 4 & 5, 2006.
    Time: 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (first day) and 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. (second day)
    Location: Governor Office Building, 200 Madison St., Room 450, Jefferson City

    One Breastfeeding Coordinator from each agency must attend the training. If you are a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator who attended the BFPC Coordinator’s training in August 2005, then this training (April 4 & 5) is optional. Fax the registration form as instructed to the State WIC office before March 15, 2006. Please register using the attached form only.

  3. MISSOURI TAKES ACTION ON OBESITY - June 29 - Save the Date!
    Mark your calendar and plan to attend the Missouri Takes Action on Obesity Conference on June 29 in Jefferson City. Attendees will become familiar with Missouri's Nutrition and Physical Activity Plan to Prevent Obesity, describe evidence-based interventions and best practices to impact obesity, and commit to working on one action in Missouri's Plan. Registration information and conference agenda will be available at online by April 1 and will also be included in future editions of the Friday Facts. This conference is targeted to a wide audience including local public health agencies, schools, communities, worksites and health care.   4. At the request of the LWPs, WICNS is planning to revise the WIC 30 Proof of Eligibility form before its next reprint. As everyday users of the form, we would like to give all Local WIC Providers the opportunity to provide feedback by completing the attached questionnaire.   5. Microcuvettes have been ordered. WIC State Office has placed the biannual HemoCue order for Microcuvettes. The Local WIC Providers should start receiving their orders during the week of March 13-17. If you requested a supply on your survey, you should be receiving a delivery.
