Goals of Fit WIC Missouri FY09

Suggested FY09 Strategies

Framework and Evaluation Tools:

Local WIC Providers (LWPs) are essential in the campaign to prevent and decrease overweight in children.  The Missouri WIC Program is responding to the Governor’s Healthy Missourians Initiative and USDA’s priority area with this invitation for all LWP’s to participate in Fit WIC Missouri, a program to improve nutrition and physical activity behaviors of WIC participants.  Fit WIC Missouri provides a framework for planning local interventions to address overweight in children.

The Fit WIC Missouri framework includes evidence-based interventions that have a positive effect on children, families and communities.  Behavior choices from the Expert Committee Recommendations on the Assessment, Prevention, and Treatment of Child and Adolescent Overweight and Obesity, June 6, 2007, are included in the FY09 Framework report.  The National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ), along with key partners, created an implementation guide to accompany the recommendations.  Best practices are recommended in areas where evidence-based interventions are not available.
