International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9-CM) codes E960-E969 in combination with one of the first 10 diagnosis codes being 99554 (physical abuse of a child) or 99581 (physical abuse of an adult), or 99555 (shaken infant)if the age is over four. Exceptions include the following: E9601 (rape) is excluded; E9673(spouse abuse) is excluded unless the age is under 15. (If the age is under 15, a record with E9673 is included under the assumption that the type of abuse is miscoded, since it is rare in Missouri for children under age 15 to be married.
