Universal access to hospitals/healthcare is but one issue in health literacy and quality care. Keeping patients/families/staff going the right direction in a timely manner to cut costs (patient flow) and frustration. RWJF has been working with others to develop and test universal symbols. The design and development are science/research based. The symbols are now being piloted at some major medical centers including the Kansas City Children’s Hospital.
