The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes national campaign coordination group developed a set of common questions and answers for nursing homes, in order to clarify how some of the many initiatives relate to and are aligned with each other. The purpose is to help nursing homes better understand how to participate in and benefit from various initiatives.

Mouth Care Without a Battle© is an evidence-based approach to person-centered daily mouth care for persons with cognitive and physical impairment. Research has linked poor oral hygiene to bad outcomes such as pneumonia, chronic pain, poor oral intake and reduced quality of life. Mouth Care Without a Battle© combines best practices in oral hygiene with proven techniques to overcome resistance to care among persons with dementia and other related conditions. Nursing Home Leadership Assistance
In cooperation with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the MU Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri offers a Nursing Home Leadership Coaching Service to assist nursing home administrators and key operational leaders to meet the leadership challenges of the long-term care industry. The services offered focus on helping nursing home administrators deal effectively with the complex management issues they face each day in their business and personnel operations. The coaching is tailored to meet individual administrator needs within the context of each person’s unique operational situations, as well as within the variety of corporate and business models in Missouri. Designed as a voluntary service, the Nursing Home Leadership Coach assists with such issues as Operational Improvement, Corporate Compliance, Budget Analysis, Regulations, Process Improvement Leadership Skills, Staff Retention, Contract Review, Survey Readiness, Staff Training, Quality of Life, and Culture Change. The Coaching Service works collaboratively with our existing QIPMO program. Dave Walker, LNHA, functions as the NHA Coach. New Generations – Quarterly Newsletter
The Section for Long-Term Care Regulation’s quarterly newsletter, formerly known as the LTC Bulletin, now has a new title: New Generations.
This title reflects a new era in long-term care, an increased focus on culture change initiatives and our commitment to be responsive to the demands that a new generation of residents, their families and the public are making on nursing homes and regulatory agencies. Person-centered care and the creation of true “home” environments are fast becoming the expectation rather than the exception and the Section must continue to provide relevant regulatory guidance applicable to every type of person who resides in Missouri’s Skilled Nursing, Intermediate Care, Assisted Living and Residential Care homes – and to the people who work in them, too.
Like the homes we strive to serve, our newsletter continues to evolve and improve based on feedback from readers and our own efforts toward quality assurance.
